About Backini
Backini came in to being in 2004 with the release of the album 'Threads' (Lumenessence Recordings). The music is composed by Rob Quickenden who uses quirky samples usually found on records bought in charity shops and thrift stores. The samples are then mashed-up beyond recognition and placed over some nice meaty beats, bass and synth sounds to form these epic Backini soundscapes.
Following the success of the first album a band was formed to interpret these tracks live. The band has grown over the last two years and is now in full bloom with eight permanent members: Two female vocalists, Sax, Flute, Guitar, Bass, Drums, Keyboards, Decks and Samples.
Backini have played many high profile gigs since 2004 (Glastonbury Festival, Love Box Festival, Big Chill festival, Lost Vagueness, Clapham Grand, Concorde 2 Brighton, various European dates) as well as stacks of radio shows (Radio 1, BBC 6, WorldSpace, Abby Road, Hungarian Radio, Juice FM, XFM).
This month (February 2006) has seen the release of Backini's second album entitled 'Re:creation' (Lumenessence Recordings). It features various collaborations with vocalists such as 'Droop Capone' (The Black Love Radiators)on new single 'Radio' (available to listen above).
The band are set to play various gigs on the UK festival circuit this summer as well as gigs throughout Europe (Greece, Hungary, Austria).
